Christmas in New York 10th December 2006

Sophia was one of an array of musical theatre talent on display in the Christmas in New York concert at London's Apollo Theatre on 10th December 2006.

Led by the talented Paul Spicer, the troupe performed a concert with a festive feel, alternative and new Christmas songs mixed in with the odd traditional ditty all accompanied by one piano.

Sophia featured in several of the songs, her first singing In The Bleak Midwinter with Emma Williams, interlaced with Paul's version of A Winter's Tale and then she really got the opportunity to get into the show, looking and sounding slinky and sexy, leading the world premiere of Charles Miller's song Red Velvet, backed up by Julie Atherton and Clare Foster. Act 2 saw her really test her vocal talents against the strong bluesy voice of Melanie la Barrie in God Bless My Family and she more than matched Melanie note for note in a song that brought out a different side to her voice than that usually seen on stage. Sophia's last feature spot was alongside John Robyns, James Gillan and Clare Foster performing the wonderfully upbeat Christmas Town.

The rest of the evening showed every performer present to be absolutely fantastic. Highlights, for me, were James Gillan's soaring voice in Make a New Tomorrow which ended Act 1, Melanie la Barrie's Surabaya Santa detailing the trials and tribulations of being Mrs Claus, Julie Atherton singing My Simple Christmas Wish and Paul Spicer and Cassidy Janson's duet Mistletoe. But just picking out those few songs doesn't take away anything from the rest of this near perfect evening of music.
